We always wonder is a science behind “Job Search”.

Well there might not be a complete science behind job search but definitely a systematic approach. To understand more in detail let us discuss two candidates looking for a job change and their approach towards it.

Candidate 1- The Usual Job Seeker

Candidate 1 has been working with an X company for last 5 years and feels the need to go for a job change. So applies to every other job that is seen on the job sites. No modifications in made on the cover letter and the resume. The resume and the cover letter are devoid of essential keywords that can be captured by a HR recruiter while searching potential candidates. The profile on professional networking sites is blank with no overview of key achievements and the roles undertaken.

When it comes to interview, the candidate take least interest in understanding the company and the importance of the role in the company for which the interview is scheduled. As he thinks that interviewer will either like or will not like him.

With time, the degree of rejections become more and the job search becomes diluted. The rejections are disheartening the candidate where confidence on oneself is being lost with time. More blame is being put on companies which are rejecting.

Candidate 2- The Smart Job Seeker

The smart job seeker take job search as a new opportunity of learning. To make job search effective the candidate is calm and open-minded to diligently plan the activities for job search. First thing first the candidate has updated the profiles on professional networking sites. As the candidate knows that an HR recruiter definitely looks at such sites to authenticate the candidate details.

The candidate doesn’t apply to any other job but applies only to those jobs which are relevant to its skills, roles & responsibilities, experience and compensation. For each open job candidate makes an extra effort to highlight its key strengthens in resume as per the job requirements. It updates its resumes with essential keywords that are present in the job description and are important part of candidate skills.

Moreover, the candidate keeps learning and updating on current industry trends for which the job is applied. Before the interview a thorough research is conducted on the company and the role. After the interview, the candidate connects back with the HR recruiter for extending welcome for the opportunity and for interview feedbacks. This is helping the candidate in strengthening referrals for the future.

The candidate stay confident on own skills and professional attributes that are essential for any new job. Rejections may lead to stress and anxiety but the candidate is confident that very soon a new job opportunity will come.
