Talent acquisition refers to the procedure of locating and acquiring desired candidates with specific skill sets that are essential for organizational needs and to overcome any labor requirement. It is an essential element of functioning of the HR department and forms an important segment of executive recruitment. There are five major steps in the talent acquisition process which are follows.
The first and the foremost stage of the talent acquisition process is lead generation. It is very important to generate a talent pool with potential candidates for various job roles within the organization. Without a proper sourcing, the recruitment might end up with selecting the candidates who appeared first instead of the potential. This might harm the business process and lower the productivity to a great extent in the long run. So working on getting the word out regarding vacancies in the most effective way possible is crucial to receive a steady flow of candidate profiles.
Next is the analysis of the behavioral aspect of the candidate. Gone are the days when a candidate was selected just on the basis of technical skills or knowledge. Now days just that element is not sufficient for the selection process. A candidate need to be assessed on the professional behavioral pattern, problem solving ability and crisis management ability so as to understand whether he or she is capable of working within a specific work culture. Otherwise the recruitment might result in higher turnover rates which are not good for business.
The technology has flourished tremendously in the past couple of years. It has given access to many assessment tools both online and offline that can be utilized for candidate assessment in structured and accurate manner. These tools not only produce accurate results, but also provide in-depth analysis of the process which is beneficial for decision making. They help in reducing the cost associated with the recruitment to great extent and also the time and resources spent on analysis is greatly reduced.
Reference check is one of the important steps of talent acquisition. When a candidate is analyzed there are three elements which are considered. They are competency, chemistry and character. The competency can be analyzed with tools. But for the chemistry and character, reference checks are essential. This can be done by contacting previous companies that the individuals have worked with or the academic institutes from which they have gained qualifications.
The last and most important step of the talent acquisition process is the final selection. After all the analysis and the evaluation, now is the time of final decision making. Based on all the information collected during the process the decision should be taken. After the recruitment, the selection should be rated and monitored in terms of performance, productivity and other related parameters so as to understand the effectiveness of the project. This analysis is important to understand the standpoint of system and identify the loopholes present within if any. Hence it is a very crucial step.
